A Charolais cross heifer from Wilson Peters, Cuilt Farmhouse, Monzie, stood overall champion at the Aberdeen Christmas Classic, held at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie.
The annual event, held in conjunction with Aberdeen Fatstock Association and sponsored by Rapid Project Development (RPD), attracted a tremendous line-up of prime and butchers’ animals from well-known stockmen and women throughout Scotland.
Taking the supreme honours, when tapped out by judges Scott Watson, Carnoustie, and Harry Wood of Bowland Foods, Preston, was a March, 2021-born heifer scaling 584kg.
This home-bred heifer by Balthayock Nicolas, out of a Limousin cross British Blue dam sold for the top price of £4200 to Kitson Butchers, Yorkshire.
Wilson also took the champion butchers’ award for a Limousin cross heifer scaling 592kg bred by the Robertsons at Newton of Logierait.
Sired by Glenrock Inferno, out of a Limousin cross dam, this May, 2021-born heifer also sold to Kitson Butchers for £4000.
The reserve overall award went to a March, 2021-born Limousin cross heifer from Craig Buchan, Nether Savoch, Longside, Peterhead.
Scaling 572kg, this one made £3200 to S and K Mackie Butchers, Aberlour.
Tilly Munro from Invercharron, Ardgay, stood Young Farmers’ champion with a home-bred British Blue cross heifer bred by Shewglie Farms.
This March, 2021-born heifer tipped the scales at 620kg and sold for £2900 to Bruce Of The Broch Butchers, Fraserburgh.
Just behind, at £2700, was the reserve butchers’ animal from David and Neil Work, Mains of Dumbreck, Ellon.
Bred by Balfour Baillie, Orkney, this November, 2021-born Limousin cross bullock is by Lodge Hamlet and sold to John Scott Meats, Paisley.
Anna Fettes from Braes of Enzie, Buckie, took reserve in the Young Farmers’ section with a British Blue cross bullock weighing 626kg.
He sold for £2000 to Kitson Butchers.
The next top price of £3312 or 460p per kg also came from Anna, this time with the champion unhaltered animal.
This was an Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer scaling 720kg purchased by Forbes Raeburn Butchers, Huntly.
Angus Greenlaw, Sheep Park Farms, Bridge of Marnoch, stood reserve unhaltered champion with a home-bred, 596kg Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer which sold for £2320.50 to Hugh Black and Sons, Lanark.
Two other animals sold above the £3000 mark including a third prize Limousin cross heifer weighing 705kg from Blair Duffton, Huntly, which sold for £3102 to G and L Carroll, Edendiack, Huntly.
Selling for £3085.50 was the best native, an Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer weighing 705kg from Wilson Peters, purchased by JG Mansonfield, Bridgend.
Anna Fettes’ champion in the Young Farmers’ unhaltered section sold for £2250 to John Stewart Quality Butchers, Banff, while the reserve from Stuart Ross, Wardhead, Strichen, made £2478 to W and D Moir Livestock, Home Farm Cairness, Fraserburgh.
