Moir’s claim the triple crown at the Aberdeen Christmas Classic

William and David Moir, Home Farm, Cairness topped the sale for the second consecutive year with their Open Champion pair of lambs at the Aberdeen Christmas Classic held on Tuesday 26th November at Aberdeen & Northern Marts’ Thainstone Centre.

Judge Stuart Stark from M J Stark Ltd, Bluebell, Alton Farm, Milton of Campsie selected the pair of Beltex lambs scaling 49.5kg as the Open Champion which went onto sell for the top price of £320 per head to J B Penman Butcher, 38 High Street Sout, Crail.

The Reserve Open Champion was from R Wilkie, Tillyboy, Echt again with 48kg Beltex cross home-bred lambs selling at £200 per head to John Scott Meats, Sandyford Road, Paisley.

The Butchers Champions were also shown by the Moir brothers with a pair of Beltex cross lambs scaling 43.5kg sold for £300 per head to the judge Stuart Stark.

The Reserve Champion Butchers were exhibited by W & J Brown, Hilton of Culsh, New Deer these 49kg Beltex cross home-bred lambs sold for £200 per head to John Scott Meats.

The Young Farmers section saw the Champion exhibited once again by William and David Moir for a pair of Beltex cross lambs scaling 48kg selling for £220 per head to the judge Stuart Stark.

The Reserve Young Farmers pair came from Megan Glass-Smith, Mill of Fowlis, Alford again home-bred Beltex crosses scaling 39kg and achieving £200 per head selling to Grant Dinnie, Bridgeton.

The annual event was held in conjunction with Aberdeen Fatstock Association and supported by main sponsor Rapid Project Development (RPD).

In total, 40 pairs of prime lambs averaged 395p per kg or £180.32 per head. This is well up on the year with the average per head increasing by £27.10 on the 2023 sale.
