Charolais 'Harestone Leam' leads the pedigree bull show

The overall championship title and top price of 6,500gns has been snapped up by Insch farmer, Neil Barclay at the annual show and sale of pedigree bulls and females at Thainstone Centre today. 
 
The 20-month old Charolais ‘Harestone Leam’, sired by ‘Inverlochy Ferdie’, sold to MJ Forbes, Drumblade, Huntly at the multi-breed show and sale – organised by Aberdeen & Northern Marts and sponsored by local veterinary practice, Ardene House.  The popular event showcased 49 entries - with Liam Muir, Upper Onston, Steness, Orkney as judge - before heading to a packed ringside for auction.
 
The champion Limousin ‘Gallery Loki’ from I & G Grant, Bank of Gallery, Montrose achieved the second top price of 6,200gns to D R & A Henderson, Mains of Wardhouse, Insch and the reserve champion Charolais ‘Utopia Lennon’ from J A Wilson & Sons, Kinclune, Glenkindie realised the third leading price of 6,000gns to J&M McConnachie, Midwtown of Buchromb, Dufftown, Keith.
 
Simmental champion - 23-month old ‘Tillyeve Gary’ from C & M Bruce, Tillyeve, Udny - did not meet reserve at auction whilst their 17-month old reserve champion Simmental ‘Tillyeve Gordon’ realised 4,000gns to A& J Wilson, Upper Scotstown, Insch.
 
Two-year old ‘Strathinver Evolution’ from Wendy Willox, Broadmyre, Clatt claimed the Aberdeen-Angus champion title and sold for 4,400gns and reserve champion from N F Massie & Son, Blelack achieved 2,400gns - both to W S L  Muir, Upper Onston, Stenness, Stromness, Orkney.
 
Other leading prices included 5,600gns for J McIrvine and McBeath in addition to 5,200gns and 3,600gns for West Knock Farms for the Limousins.  The Charolais section also saw leading prices of 4,000gns to N R Barclay and 3,500gns to J A Wilson.
 
Alan Hutcheon, auction operations manager for Aberdeen & Northern Marts, said:  “Good quality pedigree bulls sold above sellers’ expectations at Thainstone Centre today.”
 
The auction also featured a dispersal sale of the Greenbridge pedigree Limousin herd from E J Green, Keith. Top prices were 5,000gns for a pedigree heifer and bull calf and 3,600gns for a pedigree cow and bull calf.
